A childs birth certificate?

My grand daughter was registered today, and much to my sons disgust she was not given his surname, both he and his partner are now regretting it, can they get the birth certificate changed, so that she has his surname?

Answers:
When I was born the clerk made a clerical error in writing my name and my mother immediately paid to have it changed. I think that it was outrageous that she had to pay, but the point is that it was possible if done immediately. One day makes all the difference, but this link gives details of how to go about making a change. http://www.ukdps.co.uk/canabirthcertific...

yes i believe they can still get it changed
you can change a first name within 1 year but not the surname im afraid. you can go through deed poll though

There is some information here on if it is possible to change the birth certificate and if it can't be changed, how to go about changing the baby's surname by deed poll.
I dont think so! I believe that they will have to get the name changed by the court
Good luck.
Not sure but it really is a good idea to have the fathers surname if they are not married for legal reasons regarding custody if anything (heaven forbid) should happen to mum.
I do think you can as i remember them saying to me i could alter my surname should i marry my daughters father in the future.
Hope it gets resolved.
In the state my daughter was born in-Louisiana-you had 7 days from the original filing to change a childs name and it had to be signed by a notary
you can get it changed you will need to see a solicester they will give you a form to fill in and you send it off you will not have to pay to do this . i kniow you can do it as i changed my daughters after i married her father
It sounds like they need to contact the registry office for more details. When we went to get our babies done they were adament that we checked every detail and spelling, once and twice over. Otherwise its a very complicated proceedure to sort out once it goes in the official register.
Yes- but they both have to be present. When my little neice was born my sister registered her with her surname because b/f wasn't around. Then he reappeared when the baby was a few weeks old and they went together to re-register her and have his name put on the certificate and as i recall they didn't even have to pay.
with my first son i fell out with my partner and refused to give him his surname. we made up and had another son two years later and we changed his suname when we registered him. so yes it can be done!
Although they can change her first name on the certificate within a year, they cannot change the surname. Under UK law however, anyone is entitled to adopt any name they choose - no need for deed polls, etc. They can therefore call her by the chosen surname quite legally (and people often do).
No you cant, the name that is put on stays there, unless you get adopted then its done through courts.
