I disputed a couple of charges that I didn't authorize, now what?

I already filed a police report so what does the investigation consist of? How do they go about it and how long will it usually take for me to hear back from them?

Answers:
If you filed a WRITTEN dispute, the credit card company will do an internal investigation. During the time it takes to do that, you do not have to pay the disputed charge.

If they eventually determine your are correct, they will forever remove the charge from your bill.

If they determine you are responsible for the charge, they will let you know. You can decide then whether it is worth hiring an attorney to contest it or not.

My experience is that it's pretty routine. The CC company gives the other party a chance to respond, and after a certain amount of time passes, the charges will be removed.

It's unlikely that you will hear anything from the police. The CC company will take care of the whole thing.
