Shoplifting charges?

I live in MN, I was caught shoplifting about $40 worth of stuff, it was my first offense, and I'm 18. What happens now? I have a court appearence, but I leave for college in Iowa at the end of August. What should I expect?

ps save the preaching, it's a waste of my time

Answers:
It is only petit larceny. You may be required to do community service, pay restitution/fines, or you may just get out on probation like I did. However, check with your state and local laws for extra help.

For starters, get a lawyer. It will be worth it, especially since you committed the offense (your last I hope) as an adult. It will be a misdemeanor charge, but still a pain and needs to be dealt with. Don't expect the court to make an exception for starting college. Do let an attorney deal with it ASAP.
Hopefully youll go to jail for 45 days but I guess you think you wouldnt deserve it because some how your a victum of something arent ya Oh yea go ahead and go to college Im sure a warrent wont be put out for you and if your on scholarship say bye bye bye to it
Expect to be charged with a misdemeanor, found guilty, and sentenced to pay a fine or community service, and perhaps a couple months in county jail. In my opinion, you'll get off pretty easy considering what you did.
What College are you heading to ? Would it be Luther College ?? If your 18 years old and got caught with shoplifting, then you will be placed on probation. I doubt if your gonna be able to leave the state of Minnesota. What you need to expect is to be detained in Minnesota. You failed to mention the date on your court appearance. P.S., you need to take time out to listen to preaching. You broke the Commandment of Thou shalt not Steal. I hope your not a Norwegian. Lots of Norske's in Minnesota. If you lived hundreds of years ago, they would have chopped your fingers off.
SAME TO YOU, YA BIG TIME THIEF !! I checked your spelling out and your not perfect either. Big time college girl, with long fingers. Keep stealing and you'll end up in the college of hard knocks.
