My granddaughter was taken in an ambulance by UMDNJ-UBHC at Piscataway last December for no good reason.?

It turned out that one of her friends is crazy and this friend called and said she was suicial. They took her away without even asking her father. The father keeps getting bills which he cannot pay and should not pay. He does not even have the insurance that he needs. What should he do? He is sick of the bills coming in because of this nightmare. When they checked my granddaughter, they found her to be fine. Why should the father pay for their mistakes?

That's terrible! Get a lawyer!

because she was a minor and he is responsible. he should have refused the ambulance ride.

he doesn't have to pay it, it will just go on his bad credit! thats all.....
I think you should contact an attorney to help advise you. You can try and find one who will take your case, for a reduced fee. If not maybe you can sue the friend for calling the ambulance.
You are probably not going to get a sufficient answer on here. You need to contact a law firm and discuss the situation with them. They usually have an initial free consultation. They will tell you if you have a case or if you are wasting your time.

Good Luck!
If he doesn't want to pay, then he should simply not pay. Then, if they try to use the courts for collection, he can defend and show that there was no bona fide emergency. However, he should ask how the courts would react if the emergency services outfit got a call about a suicidal child and did not treat that as a bona fide emergency and the the child committed suicide. I suspect that the courts will find that the parent is obliged to pay for emergency services and that there was a bona fide emergency. The alternative would encourage the emergency service outfit to put lives in danger.
if he did not make the call, he can not be held liable for the charges
Tell dad to get a lawyer and sue the pants off the friend or the parents of the friend. Also, he may to file a suit against UMDNJ-UBHC for taking a minor without notifying the parents.
You should report this to the police what this crazy "friend" did. Is she underage? If she's a parent should have been told. I'm sorry for your troubles, this is very unusual situation. How long did they keep her? Try to talk to them and explain the situation. I hope you get a solution soon.
The ambulance driver was just doing what they legally had to do. . .what if she was suicidal and the father was unaware-later that night she kills herself and the ambulance did nothing even after being called? It is the friend's family he should be talking to and finding out why they were called in the first place. If it was a prank, they should be paying the bills, but if the friend was sincere in the call she should b thanked for caring enough to do something she thought would help her friend.
Dont try to fix this over the phone..go directly
to the hospital billing dept, then start up the chain of command....
