Worried about my ex-company?

I am wondering if a company that I am are no longer working for but yet is still pestering me to submit a work that was given last minute on the day I left, can take legal actions against me??

Furthermore the work itself is not as simple as it requires me to do a lot of modifications to the codes but yet i was told last minute and the thing that is troubling me the most is that they keep giving me smses and phone calls asking about it when they can spent their time working on it instead.

How should i address this problems cause i am having trouble entertaining the calls and smes and i don't feel at ease to just switch off my phone and ignored the,.

In my opinion it depends on when they gave you your last assignment and how long that would usually take for you to finish.
I presume they knew when you were leaving and couldn't have given you a job on short term notice, expecting you to finish after you had quited with the company.
I think you could try to make a phone call to a legal aid and lay this question before them and have them advise you on what to do. Most law firms would have a free service to see if you have a case or not. Besides that, inform your ex-employer that you weren't able to finish the job in terms of the set time and you availability to the company which they knew in advance and should assign this to your replacement.

Why not use this opportunity to contract yourself to them?.
1) You make some good money , you fix it and the problem goes away.
2) Just ignore them, you have no resposibilty to them.
Just ignore the calls. Unless you took money, like commission or something on the project that is incomplete you have nothing to worry about. Just tell them you have mental problems now to deal with because they are driving you nuts and to leave you alone. They should stop calling you. No one wants to push a crazy person over the edge. LOL
If they let you go I would say that was poor planning on there part you are not responsible for any part of the business now if they wanted you to finish what ever it was you were doing they should have thought of that before letting you go now shouldn't they
not if you gave notice, any type..
How did you leave? If you gave some sort of notice its thier fault. If you just upped and quit you would have had to have a VERY particular contract for them to have a leg to stand on. And these sort of contracts are super rare and you would know. Or this would have been brought up in one of their messages. But you do write code so it could be possible. If they let you go... well you owe them nothing.

You are right in thinking to call them. You might need a reference or have to list it for a security clearance in the future. Plus it is probably annoying.

Call them up and see whats up. Explain that hey, you don't work for them anymore. Since they need it so bad and are slightly inclined to say you would consider doing it for money. And since they need it so bad name a very hefty amount. Odds are they will leave you alone and decide to do it in house. If you do it have them send you an actual letter requesting you to do the work....that way they can't turn around and say you extorted it from them.

But all in all its probably best to just say "I am not responsible". As another said whatever the circumstances were to make you leave they should have thought about this if you are so valuable. They could have paid you more so you would not even think about leaving. If so inclined you could say "I would consider coming back for a VERY generous raise". You never know they might take you up on it. Heck, in most companies they figure it costs 25K to hire someone so it is best to just give it to the person so they don't leave.

But you need to call. And write down dates, times and what was said just in case it becomes some sort of legal issue.
You are not liable for any legal actions for this case. In fact no one can be sued for not completing their works in time.

Since you had already left the company, they have no right to pester you for the work.

Just tell them not to call you any further, or you may report to the police for harassment.
