Does this seem right to body?
My father committed suicide nine months ago, and the DCI (the investigative team) took many of our possessions, computer digital camera, printer, cell phones, and many other valuable items. The death certificate came a month afterwards, but none of our possessions have been returned. Of course we have bought all new items because we have needed them, but we still could use them. Does this seem right to anybody, I think it is rediculous, is there any law or regulation that draws a line on how long this can take? After the DCI is finished, our police department still needs to go through it, as of now I would bet that our stuff is just sitting in a drawer.

Contact your local police department and ask them how to get your stuff back. Be polite but firm. If the person you speak with cannot give you a satisfactory answer, go to their superiors.
Assuming the items were seized as part of a legitimate investigation, they can and will be held as long as the investigation is active and they are considered important to the investigation. You could consult an attorney about petitioning the court to release the items. Without more details about why they were seized, I doubt even an attorney can state how soon or even if the items will be returned.
