Does the brutal crime of rape deserve the same penalty as murder in the first degree or 2nd?

Answer:
it depends, say you have a girl whos dating some guy she really likes has sex with him then breaks up or regrets the encounter then cries rape. The guy shouldn't get a life sentece for that but if the rape is on a child or its aggravated rape then the penalty should be more, but not equivalent to murder as murder is taking someones life, and although some rape victims claim the rapist took their life away they only in fact lost their dignity.

You bet your sweet a** it does.
YES
sure does ...
Considering the traumatic, life altering effect of rape, I don't see a problem with severe penalties.
Should be punishable by death to be carried out immediately!
ask bill clinton, he has commited them both.
Yes! double especially if there is a child involved!

I would go MANDATORY DEATH PENALTY if a child is raped.
both.times 6!
Actually they did use the murder penalty for rape for a while in Texas but all they saw was an increased number of murders because the men that were raping the victim would figure that he was going to get the full sentence any way so he would kill the victim to leave no witnesses. I'm not defending rape by any means but I'm just warning people of the consequences of a penalty like that. I don't know where I would stand on rape and the death penalty because sometimes the victim can willingly have sex with the man being accused of rape but then get mad at him for something and decide to press charges against him. (I know someone who this happened to.) And I don't think that statitory rape (Willing underage sex) should have the same consequences as what your describing.
Yes, it should be consistent with the same penalties as first and second degree murder, based on the severity of the crime, but I also believe in the death penalty for murder. Hmm, yep. I agree, definitely the same penalties.
It is about taking away choices..Murder is denying a person the right to live..Rape is denying a person the right to their body and forcing them to live out the rest of their life with what that sort of violation does to a person physically, and emotionally...

There needs to be harsher punishments for this degrading, life-altering crime..
Personally I think that if they just went ahead and got rid of people committed of rape and those on death row. We would save money as far as tax dollars are concerned and there would probably be a smaller number of people committing such horrible crimes.
No. A person cannot recover from death.
Depends on the brutality level.

But for the very brutal - yes - like it or not there are some penalties that are required by a society.
Brutal in whose estimation? With some women, if you touch them it is a violent rape, with others, it's just a part of sex. If you mean a violent beating, it enhances the level of rape and carries a stiffer penalty. If the one who was assaulted is placed in the hospital and requires stablizing, then you have attempted murder as well. Which should carry the death penalty. Otherwise it is simple assault and rape. Which is a prison term.
There are varying degrees of rape - one male raping one female - a group of guys raping one female in turn - and there was even one case of a woman walking home from her friend's house being ambushed by a crowd of thirty two Eastern European guys (coming from a party), led away to isolated woodland, raped continuously for a period of seven hours before passing out. When it was realised she had passed out, the men picked her up and threw her in the river
I don't think we need to be thinking about making the peanlty stiffer. I would like to see alot done to punish false rape charges and to see that ALOT less rapists get off on technicalities! Child Rape, statutory or violent ,needs to be addressed with more support for the victims and more prevention programs that are effective. I would like to see a society that thinks ALOT less lightly of rape and saying B>S> like "At least you still have your life, unlike a murder victim" Thats so much glossing over the problem!
I would support that. Castration might also be a good option. We wouldn't have any second offenses.
YES..YES...YES!!!!... it should, because all though the victim is "alive "part of them are killed .I work in a children's home an the pain and low self worth is apparent in the faces of the children who have been violated. You can tell if a new kid has been violated just by the look on their face.No matter what you do that child will always look over their shoulder to see who want to hurt them now.
