Sex offenders?

when a sex offender registers, is there a specific amount of distance they have to be from childre? Reason I ask is that I live in a very small town which used to be very upscale and when I look on the offenders list there are 14 of them right here. I'm talking a SMALL town. I have a 3 year old and 5 other kids living on my street and there is one .04 of a mile a stones throw away and another even closer in an expensive hotel. My friend is coming here to visit and she was going to stay in the hotel but now? Should I walk down there and tell them there one at their hotel?

Some jurisdictions have a requirement they must not be within so many feet/yards of schools, daycare centers, etc but many jurisdictions do not have that requirement whatsoever.

What state are you in? Email me the information and I can give you a precise answer as to what the law is where you reside.

We get newspaper reports of sex offenders still getting jobs in schools, driving the school buses and living next to play areas so no i dont think they have to keep a certain distance from a child... and they make sure that they can abuse this loophole in the law.
Distance unknown. Just be aware of the fact that the SO can sue you in a civil court for various reasons !!
I would if I where you.
I think that it would depend on what the local police policy is on that, you could always contact your local police station and ask them. Also it could depend on the judges decision when the sex offender was released of where he is allowed to be and how far he has to be from children.
I would call the local police. They should be able to tell you. Each state may be different.
are there any murderers or muggers? hoodies or druggies, thieves? Are there any unfit mothers or drunkard fathers?.. best do a lot more research just in case you missed all these...and then you can lock all your doors and shut the curtains. Get real.
Yes, tell them, and keep a very close eye on your children because the courts wont look after them or their interests.
In the UK sex offenders can live where ever they choose, if they are on the sex offenders list they must register with the police and only the police are supposed to know their address
After a sex offender has served their time they have a legal right to live where ever the choose provided that it is not with in x distance of a school or daycare. The distance guidelines vary. The sex offender must also register.
unfortunatly i dont think they have a limit or requirement as for distance unless they are severe sex offenders. the law puts such a wide variety on the title sex offenders. i think they should specify the offense. im not sayin its ok cause its not but someone who dated a 16yr old and their parents got pissed then they were labeled sex offender. i would contact your local police force and get the details on the offenders but be very careful what you say and do they may be able to sue you do to slander or harrassment. start a community group to get the word out to be careful. also keep an eye out not all offenders are registered. good luck
Tell them to be careful crossing the road. Their children are at far more risk from harm from traffic than from sex offenders. In UK over 1000 children die each year in road traffic accidents, while less than 100 are homicide victims - mostly at the hand of a parent.

Do you think the public nature of the sex offender list in your state has made your children safer? Or has it just made you more worried about a statistically very unlikely event.

If a parent exercises proper supervision, there should be little or no risk from these people.
It depends on what state you live in. There are certain distances from schools and parks that they are not allowed to live by. Go to your state's home page and do a search for registered sex offender rules. Best of luck.
Grass the nonce!
The chances are that if your kid gets sexually abused, it'll be you that does it. Best cut your own hands off now - it's for your child's own protection.
not sure on the distance they have to be from children,

But where i live there is a Nonse and they housed him right next to a park, so i guess there not really to bothered where they put them, I mean that is like dangling a carrott in front of a donkey.
What kind of a town do you live in that is attracting so many sex offenders? I would be careful to go down to that Hotel and report about the sex offender because they also have civil rights. I can understand how you must feel as a mother, and that you worry for your children that's natural, but you know there are so many who are not on any lists who have never been caught. One has to be careful not to get to carried away with it, after all unfortunately this is the kind of world we live in these days. Just make sure your children are safe, that's your only responsibility, and teach your children to be safe around strangers. Good luck
