Especially in speeches why do people?
keep on nodding heir heads up and down, up and down, in affirmation, as if they are sending a signal to others that they are agreeing so you should also agree. :) Thanks.

Heh...they look like parrots...
non-verbal communication is key in speeches.
Are you referring to the speech giver or receiver?
receivers if they don't agree with what you're saying will display negative body language so the nodding is a good cue to the speaker that he's doing well. It's key for a good public speaker to be able to read the audiences body language. It's natural as a human being to non-verbally show acceptance or rejection to what people are saying it happens everywhere not just in speeches.
Some don't. Some frown and turn their heads back and forth.
i know. sometimes it irritates the heck right outta me. for me though, its as if that person is saying, i knew that already, yes, you are right.
several reasons
A) Their not really paying attention so they are nodding to make it seem like they are
B) They are agreeing with everything the speaker says this is especially so during a sermon and people cry Amen.
C) Their actually trying to stay awake so the nodding you're seeing is someone nodding off and then waking up again.
D) They have tiny earphones and are listening to music. They are looking at the speaker to make it seem they are listening but they are nodding to the rhythm of the music.
It doesn't mean that you have to agree- it is just a non verbal expression of their agreement.
