Do previous convictions stop you from getting licensed as a nurse?
Answer:
I started nursing school knowing I had a drug conviction. It was old-over 7 years, but I still had to get clemency through a hearing. After I finished school, I had letters of recommendation from all of my instructors, and the school director attesting to my desire, and character. The Board of Nursing for your individual
state actually makes the decision, you would be well advised to actually consult with them candidly. Better to embarass yourself now rather than at the end of a long arduous journey through class and clinicals. Some schools also have strict requirements going in, because during clinicals you will be giving meds (under supervision) and patient care. Good luck. It isn't easy, but nothing ever valuable is acquired easily.
It all really depends on what kind of conviction..
While it might be possible to get licenced, finding someone who would hire you will be very difficult.
Depends what they are and how long ago they were.
If they were drug related and in the last 5 years, then I think you would have problems.
Also things like child abuse, domestic violence, assault, firearm offences ever in your life as well.
If they are just traffic, minor shoplifting when you were a kid, or an OLD simple drug matter (like possession of marijuana once, 9 years ago) then you should be fine.
