Why did the feds allow Vick to plead out?

All of his co-defendants were set to testify against him. They should have reopened the grand jury, added as many charges as they could, and took him to trial. They should have used Vick as an example to other black athletes to know their place, and that if you act like a thug, you do time like one too. Why did they give him special treatment?

I had planned to answer your question, until I read this part:
"They should have used Vick as an example to other black athletes to know their place..."
And I realized that you are just as ignorant as the NAACP, in trying to paint this as a race issue.

What about the white athletes, like Chris Benoit, who should know their place?

Look, the fact is, Vick is a sick f*ck.
He needs all the prison time that the law can dish out for this kind of sick crime.

Personally, I'd like to see him get torn apart by pit bulls, but NOT because he's black.
Anyone, of any skin color, who tortures animals is sub-human and not above hurting people as well.

I agree. But then I'm sure our PC country and legal system is afraid of racist rhetoric from idiots like Jackson and Sharpton.

Seems a lot of the answers here either conveniently overlook or ignore the fact that Sharpton and the NAACP have already played the race card. I'm just as black and just as proud of who I am as anyone yet, I can still see how much damage these groups do to us every day.
If you want to decide how the U.S. attorney should use their limited resources, all you have to do is go to law school, spend your career in prosecution, get appointed as U.S. attorney, study the budget and the crime figures for your district, and decide that the best use of limited time, money and manpower is go to after athletes involved in dog-fighting. Until you get qualified to make those decisions, no one will care what you think.
uh,,,,,,you cant force someone to plea innocent
use him as an example to other black athetes to know their place?

lol

Grand wizard.Wilbur is that you ?
Money My friend why do they do anything? Money. His **** in jail gets none------------ and him out of jail paying an attorney and fees and fines gets some.
that and some season tickets are put here and there, and boom no laws where broken.

money talks BS walks. to the jail cell.
Everyone is allowed to plead guilty and pretty much all attorneys will try for a plea bargain instead of going to court. Honestly the possibility of extra charges were probably just a bargaining tool to get him to plead guilty. As for special treatment, we won't know that until he gets sentenced. Why should he be an example to other black athletes to know their place. Why should he not simply be an example that stars are not above the law but that the law is blind to status and equal in its judgment?

As an edit: Sometimes the most air tight cases fall apart when put before a jury. Is it better to guarantee punishment for his worst crimes or leave it to probability to punish him for all crimes.
I'm a black man actually, and quite frankly I don't see this as a racial issue but a criminal issue. Go to your history books and you'll see who started dog fighting, I don't think it was black folk. The fed's often offer plea deals to avoid lengthly and expensive trials, Vic knew he had to take that deal based on the evidence against him and the other indictees that were going to testify against him. I'd reconsider your thoughts and the black/white deal and just understand the legal aspects of it...why do we always go racial...he took the deal to avoid getting convicted in court which would have meant him doing more time. The fed's have a 94% convict rate, so it wasn't looking good anyway. All they want is a guilty verdict and that's what they are going to get.
It's not special treatment to take a plea - it happens all the time, particularly on relatively minor charges. And, given that he is facing as much as a year in jail, it seems prudent to take a plea in a situation in which a popular athelete might find a fan on the jury, resulting in an acquittal.

The racist component of your question is, frankly, either flame bait or reprehensible nonsense.
remember the fiasco of the O.J. trial and how the race card was played and incited events. it was more convenient and less expensive to allow him to plead out. a travesty of justice but in a P.C. world people often fear to do the right thing.

"The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely would call for less". this is a drop in the bucket to this man who has made millions just because he can run fast and catch a ball.

anyone who pays to see him play, buys a product he endorses is in fact supporting him escaping justice for his actions. he associates with criminals and if he had to go back to being poor, he would soon be in jail.

black, white, brown or whatever, anyone who commits crimes should be punished to the full extent of the law and not be excused because of their color.
It America anybody of whatever race can plead out depending on the charge. It depends on what they feel is an appropriate punishment. Making an example could be construed as "special treatment". The feds stick to the letter of the law.

Look at it. Immediately after he was charged all sorts of people jumped up to say he was being descriminated against. Not "hey, he did wrong" but he was charged because he is black.

The poor and uneducated of whatever race and age will continue to idolize sports stars regardless of what they do. Wear the clothes, watch TV for 4 hours, think that they could do it, whatever... the government can't fix that. People who are successful in life get it. sports are sports and maybe reading a book is the way to go.

It would have stayed in court forever and been on TV forever. Whatever Vick gets it still makes a point that just because you can throw a ball or rap does not mean you are smart. Some are but that is rare as there are what? A hundred out of 350 million people?

The reason Al Sharpton got on this is because this talk would again expose what is wrong.. blame someone else instead of dealing w. basic issues.
The prosecution wants to avoid a media circus trial.

Also, the NFL and sports media probably offered the DA a few incentives to offer a plea. They don't want this bad publicity dragging on through the season.
