Could enforcing tough laws against committing adultery while married be used to curb the number of incidents?

Too many people these days get married too fast without any kind of true committment. They get married and divorced like changing underwear. If there were stiffer laws against adultery...would it curb cheating and the break up of families? Could it lower the amount of single-parents a bit? Doesn't some women intentionally seek out married man and visa-versa as a challenge and a thrill? Could tougher laws lower stds? Should unhappy spouses be urged to get a divorce before persuing other interests? Should divorces be so easily obtained? Should spouses that are physically/emotionally/sexuall... abused get legal aid in a proven in court case, to get a quickie divorce? Should it be so easy for a spouse to go out and lay around with dozens of partners and then go home to the spouse...possibly giving them a disease.? Should the courts look down upon those who accept this behavior from their spouses?

Answers:
Sure, enforcing morality will probably never happen. People who say "All is fair in love and war." are stupid. That is why they call it "CHEATING". Because it isn't fair. Marriage is about a lifelong agreement to be only with that one person. That is the ideal. If you are unhappy with your marriage, then don't lie to your spouse and cheat on them. Be honest with them, that you are no longer happy with the relationship and you are admitting that you are a liar since you are going back on your commitment.
However, I do see when there comes a time to end a relationship that is going no where. If your spouse cheats on you, then it is time to stand up for yourself.
There should be consequences for cheating on your spouse. If provable in a court of law, the faithful spouse should be entitled to everything. There are exception to rules, but this should be the basic guidleline.
On another note, deadbeat moms and dads should liable just as deadbeat pet owners are. Actually more. If you don't want kids, then don't make them. Keep your pants on or use protection, while do keep in mind that no protection is 100% effective. If it doesn't work then, you should be able to step up to the plate. The child is innocent. Doesn't it deserve a mother and a father? Good ones?
Women who don't turn in the father should be held accountable, with some sort of punishment. Perhaps forced contraceptive, so it doesn't happen again. Rape victims should be held to the same. They should have reported it. If they did, then there should not be consequences.

People should be held to a higher standard than what America allows now. I love my country, but does my country love innocent babies?

No. It would only make more people want to commit adulty because not only would they get sex outside of marriage they would get free room and board inside a prison and we all know how awesome going to jail is. I want to go right now.
The government should not have any business in private, intimate business. True there is a problem with adultery but that is a moral and personal issue. There used to be laws against it, they used to stone women for it and it did not work then.
Don't you think that people should have standers & respect for themself & there partner. We have enought laws they don't enforce.Maybe they should get to know each other better & make sure that this is who they want to be with . Instead of something to do?
The government should never be allowed to make laws that dictate who and when we have sex. It's a personal choice, not a legal one. What you're proposing is how they live in the middle eastern countries under muslim law, and you see how backwards and unintelligent they are.
There is no effective way to legislate morality.
No, it would not change anything. Because it never has, even when those laws were enforced.

And in the US under current Supreme Court rulings, private consensual sexual acts between adults cannot be made criminal unless money is involved.

Marriage is a legal contract that provides legal benefits.

Personally, I think marriages should always be a short-term contract -- maximum of 5 years, with an option to renew.

Because forcing people to stay together when they don't want to have never been a solution for anything. Which is why the laws have changed to what they are now.
Initially a relationship between a young man and a young woman is mainly based on the natural requirements - some form of fulfillment of emotional & biological pleasure together. Such relationship is more personal than contractual hence enforcing the laws to dictate a personal term can not be so effective.

However, such union is acknowledged by the society also by the law in the form of marriage which is basically done for the proper maintenance of the society. Where the laws here mostly act as a guideline - so that the couples in question don't deviate themselves from the established norms of the society.

Therefore, it should be the duty of the married couples in question to abide by the laws for their own as well as for the interest of society as a whole.

Unfortunately, many marriages are based on some unrealistic expectations which is when unfulfilled cause divorce, adultery or whatever you name it. In many cultures such impure marriages having the lion's share of the society.

Besides fulfilling emotional & biological pleasure, an ideal marriage between a couple must be based on love, respect & responsibility. Probably the laws even try to convey the same.

Therefore, I don't think enforcing "tough laws" can be of great use if not the couples in question understand the true meaning of a marriage and follows the guideline of the prevailing laws spontaneously.

I do realize that tougher matrimonial laws could be enforced for the protection of physically, emotionally or sexual abused spouses - such acts are more perversion than a humanly act, they are psychologically sick - but at the same time I also fear that misusage of such laws can jeopardize some innocent spouses particularly, if misused by the women though I don’t wish to argue on this but this is entirely my personal opinion.
The existing laws SHOULD be enforced. If the general populace does not like these laws, then it is incumbent upon them to approach their representative and change the law. This is how a CIVILIZED society operates.
There ARE laws on the books against adultery that haven't been changed in decades, hence society must still feel these laws are worthwhile.
It is the responsibility of the Police to enforce these laws, and of the District Atty's to prosecute them. Period.
When the government starts picking and choosing which laws it wishes to enforce, then ALL laws become subject to individual compliance.
