How long do I have to retrieve my dog?
Its been 5 days since my boyfriend and I broke up, how long do I have before I can no longer have access to retrieve my baby boy from my x-boyfriends apartment? Can he send the dog to the pound if I dont do it soon? or is that against the law since the dog has an owner and the law knows it?

You should get your dog IMMEDIATELY ..there is a possiblity he could deem it abandoned and send it to the pound now..
Just get it as soon as possible. Make sure you can actually keep it and you're name is not the registration because he may want to keep it.
If you want ask the cops to accompany you to keep the peace.
Go get your frikking animal and stop being a moron about it. What are you waiting for? Do you want him to have your dog destroyed? And no, he can't get into trouble, since the law assumes he's the owner since you abandoned the dog there.
if you don't make an effort to call and get what's yours he can do whatever he wants with your stuff.
Your boyfriend had no legal obligation to care for your animal
If your name is not on the lease. Your entry and exit rights are at his discretion. Changing the locks is a wise thing to do when a friend leaves and does not turn in the keys.
Your Very best option is to make arrangements with him to get the animal as soon as you can.
