Why so angry about dog fighting?
In this country, hunting is legal, but you could argue it doesn't cause sufferring, it just kills the animal outright. What about eating meat? No one wants to stop eating meat, fair enough humans are omnivores, but what about certain meat producers who are extremely cruel to the animals? Does that bother you too?
Don't cows, deer, and pigs deserve the same sympathy as cute and cuddly dogs?

I love the business of the way our society thinks these days! In the history of mankind, very rarely does one see where their survival isn't based upon the killing of animals for meat. PEOPLE EAT MEAT TO SURVIVE. That being said, and back to your question .
the business of dog-fighting is very cruel and at least one of the dogs that fight (providing we are talking about just two dogs) dies in the fight or very soon afterwards. The dogs tear off the meat of other dog's bones! It is mutilation and it is pathetic that people get their kicks out of such pathological behavior. It is illegal, is FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE DOGS, and not the humans who allow it and gamble on the outcome of the fight. Since the government can't "arrest" a dog for fighting - they can and do arrest the humans that allow the process to happen. It is ENTERTAINMENT, and it is considered a "blood sport". In fact, it is presumed to have existed since the initial domestication of the species (dog). Pure breeds such as the English Bull Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier were popular as fighting dogs, but were originally developed as "bait dogs". Other pure breeds including the Irish Terrier, the bulldog, the Kerry Blue Terrier and the Parson Russell Terrier were used for fighting along side their original use in vermin control and other farm work.
As of 2007, dog fighting is a felony in 48 states and a misdemeanor in Idaho and Wyoming. In most states, it is against the law to even attend a dog fighting event, regardless of direct participation. According to authorities, dog fighting is increasingly practiced by gangs, and is linked to other unlawful activities, such as gambling and drug use. Until we as a society can maintain our own lawful entertainment we will always have government controls. We still have animal welfare and rights. See the charges against Michael Vick - he is done, and will probably NEVER play football again plus he will most likely do some jail time - over "entertainment"!
Deer are not forced to fight against each other for human enjoyment. Dogs are forced and trained to fight each other. Cows, deer, and pigs are not. There is a BIG difference.
Killing an animal for your own survival is understandable, but having dogs kill each other for sport and your entertainment is horrible.
Because the way pigs and other live stalk are killed is a clean slit of the throat or maybe shot I think. Quick and easy.
They have to be killed in the most pain free manner.
Farms are inspected regularly and it's for food.
I love pigs and would love to have a pet pig but I will still eat pork.
These sickos that make dogs fight are just cruel. The dogs tear each other into sh reads and they suffer.
That's why
In our society, cows, deer, and pigs are food. Societal norms discourage if not prohibit ending their lives in an unnecessarily cruel manner.
Dogs are not food. Again, norms prohibit being unnecessarily cruel to them. Making them fight each other for entertainment is unnecessary.
I can assure you that meat producers do not entertain themselves by devising fun and exciting ways to torture cattle.
There is a HUGE Difference Between Killing a animal for survival vs. Killing a animal for Human Enjoyment , which is SICK.
some people believe that all animals should be protected from hunting and people should be vegetarians.
however, there are valid arguments for hunt other than the desire to kill. some game animals could become endangered or extinct because of over population. the spread of humans into their habit generally forces out the natural preditors. keep in mind that humans are natural preditors as well.
as for dog fighting, that is the use of animals for entertainment and explotation. animals get used for that all the time (movies ect). however, their use to fight and kill each other in an unnatural way is simply wrong. even when to boxers step into the ring, the fight is stopped before someone is severlly injured.
Killing for food is one thing. It is simply part of the natural order of things.
Killing for sadistic pleasure whether it is a cute cuddly dog or pulling the wings off a fly is not normal and certainly not found in nature...and I would hope most sane people could see the distinction.
Edit: Regarding hunters...If they don't eat their kill...or donate it to charities...like food kitchens for the homeless...then I equate them to killing for pleasure.
I have been watching this story since the very beginning since I live near the county it happened in. What he did to those dogs is unbelievably cruel! And to place up to $20,000 bets on them...to watch them die...sick!
The problem is multi-faceted.
However, animals that are killed for human consumption don't figure into the problematic equation as easily as animals that are killed for blood-sport.
The national attention given to this issue is, in my opinion, racially motivated.
Michael Vick, a successful Black quarterback, is facing suspension from the NFL for alleged involvement in dog-fighting on his property.
Backwoods dog-fighting operations are run by poor Whites in rural Louisiana and NOTHING is ever said/done about it!
What's the deal with watching dogs maul each other? These dogs are trained to be mean and vicious. That is doing an injustice to the animal.
Cows, deers and pigs aren't in the same category. So, don't try to make it sound right, by including them. You may as well have included rabbits.
The cruelty involved here goes beyond simply fighting the dogs...many dogs have their ears cut off so the other dog won't have anything to hold onto...they are tied up close together, but not so close that they can reach each other and semi starved before fights...dogs are stolen from good owners and trained to fight...if they are untrainable or refuse to fight, they are electrocuted or drowned or just used as play toys for the other dogs.
I would gladly give Michael vick a few shots with a cattle prod so he can experience his own brand of "fun"...
I worked at a beef plant for years when I was younger on the "kill floor" I have personally killed thousands of cattle with a knocking gun in a chute. I always tried to do it as quickly and as efficiently as I could. But half the time we produced Kosher meat...to be Kosher, the animals were strung up 20 at a time by a chain on their back ankle and rabbis cut their throats while they were alive...for 16 hours (2 shifts) the moaning was continuous and I could feel the fear of the animals. It bothers me that man can be that cruel. I eat meat, but I do not hunt.I figure I have done my bit for society in supply meat and I kill nothing today...Sometimes I nearly cause accidents by trying to miss birds and animals in my car...and even try not to step on bugs...I only kill what is trying to bite me.
Dog fighting (and often dog racing) is extremely cruel because they animals are raised for only one purpose...to provide entertainment...when the animal is no longer useful, they kill them. The use of animals in that way is disrespectful to life in general and demeans all life
Instead of repeating what 100% of the others said here...I'll just add...
Why don't YOU fight the dogs and see how it feels!
It is the reasoning behind the killing of an animal that makes it cruel or necessity.
We were made to need meat for sustanance. That is our # 1 protein source and without protein we would waste away. When a hunter kills an animal for food, it is quick and there isn't hours or excruciating pain involved. They don't deliberately torture the animal and leave it there for hours and even days in a bloody heap, licking its wounds and whining in pain. A good hunter will track the animal for hours if it doesn't immediately fall until he catches up with it and puts it out of its misery. The meat then is also used up and not just left to rot. Almost every part of the meat is used for food for either human or other animal consumption. In the wild when a wild animal kills for food, the same is true. They attack and kill as swiftly as they can for an animal of their kind and then they eat all the food of that carcus. If their is any food left over, God made scavenger birds and other smaller animals that also eat meat and cannot kill for their food due to their size or hunting capabilities to finish off the carcus. Even when an animal dies on it's own, those animals will eat the carcus of the animal that died of natural causes. God has a balance with nature. He told Noah that he could eat meat the meat of animals when he got off the boat. But the balance of nature is good and wholesome and takes proper care of itself. All of this balance is not cruelty to animals because of the balance and the ways that these animals are prepared for becoming the food for consumption.
Dog fights, Chicken fights, Meat Slaughter Houses that do not end the life of the animal quickly go under investigation for animal cruelty. Even the slaughter of the innocent seals by the Canadians where they just left them to die on the beaches because they didn't want them to get too near their fishing areas is animal cruelty. There was not good reason to kill all those seals. They could have fences off their fishing areas like they do in a war when they fence under the water to keep submarines from coming through their territory. Or they could have relocated them. Those seals were migrators to other parts of the world including to the South part of America around Florida and by killing them, they actually took the rights not only of the seals away since they were left to die in pain for no reason, some of them having their skin ripped off of them while they were still alive, but they also took the rights of all the countries that those seals migrated too away as well and therefore also damaged the balance of nature in the entire world. Animal cruelty isn't considered cruelty just because someone ends the life of an animal. Its the way they end its life and the reason behind them ending its life. Even a cowboy will shoot his horse in the head and end its life if it breaks its legs because they know that there is not lasting cure for horses with broken legs and they will only live in pain the rest of their lives so they do the humane thing and kill their best friend and companion on the range, their horse. Vets put pets to sleep daily that are in pain from incureable diseases and also from animal cruelty to put them out of their misery because they cannot be fixed up or cured and that is the humane thing to do. Animal cruelty is just the opposite. It is deliberately and knowingly inflicting pain or forciing an animal to experience pain or fight to defend themselves while being subjected to painful situations without their desire or concent to be a part of it. Animals have rights just like you do. If your parents were abusing you and beating you and physically fighting with you so you were left bleeding and bruised and broken up and then they just stuck you in a cage with only minimal food and water to sustain you and barely keep you alive until the next time they wanted to beat up you, that would be human cruelty. Put yourself in the animals place. You wouldn't want to be forced into that situation and neither do they. Another way to look at it: If there was the # 1 figher/boxer and he wanted an opponent. You wouldn't want to be forced into a fight in the ring with him against your wishes. Or if you were waking down the street and a few gang members came out of nowhere and attacked you and left you for dead. Would you not press charges against them if they authorities caught them? Well, animals cannot fight for themselves against people that treat them unfair or cruel. That is why it is inhumane and that is why we have organizations like the ASPCS and the National Humane Society to fight for their cause for them. And there are enough good people out there who must believe this since Animal Cruelty is against the law in every state in the United States and also in many other countries as well.
And you should join the countless others and fight against it too.
Why stop there? Why don't you support the death penalty for those who kill ALL life forms. Of course, that would include trees, vegetables, fish, mamals and insect.
The point is, while I abhor hunting, there is a vast difference between the sport of hunting (although a few hunt outside the law) and pitting two animals against each other so that one may die and the owner of the other may prosper financially.
This isn't about killing as much as it's about an unnatural act for financial gain.
