What do people think about the ethics of buying/selling Persian/oriental rugs?
I never thought about it until I had the chance to work in a showroom that sells these. I know some rugs are made in Pakistan ( a nation where al quaeda is reputedly headquarted). All the unknowns seem to make this a complicated issue. Briefly stated should we be aware of how commerce is conducted before we do this type of business?

P.S Looking back at this answer I feel I should give you an explanation for my answer, until recently I never gave this subject a second thought, when my husband came home with two beautiful rug's as a surprise for me, and when I looked and seen that they were Persian, the first thing that sprang into my mind was, what if we had just donated money to the very regime that is murdering our troop's in Iraq and Afghanistan, two of our children are soldiers, and it creeps me out to the point that I feel like throwing the rug's in the trash.
I'm not quite sure we can be aware of how commerce is conducted in our own country, let alone another. It seems like business knows no national boundary, and money is what overtakes borders in this instance. I'm sure there are Pakistani people who just want to make a few dollars for there family and want nothing to do with Al-quaeda.
