Alcohol legal age limit to be raised to 21, do you agree?
If not why?
Honest genuine answers please
Answers:
I can't really see the point in it, it isn't going to put teenagers off from drinking - all it will do will stop 18-21 year olds going to pub - it won't address the issue of younger teenagers drinking on the streets or indeed any age group from binge drinking.
to be honest i doubt it will change anything apart from 21 year olds getting the booze for the 13 year olds, rather than 18 year olds.
I think it should be raised to 25. It would stop a lot of senseless action causing loss of life.
Where I live, the legal age for alcohol is 21.
It's already 21 here
kinny i have to agree or initiate a program that doesnt allow dui offenders and people that get into a lot of trouble from buying alcohol
21 in Pennsylvania
it is already 21 in KS. I do think it has cut down some of the underage drinking. However, if a kid wants something, they will find a way to get it.
The age limit is already 21. Where are you talking about?
Rubbish!
The problem is not the age limit, it is the attitudes of those who choose to binge drink and cause trouble.
OK go out and have a laugh and a few drinks but is stumbling home and falling down, pissing yourself and getting hurt really all that fun?
We need to educate our young people to use alcohol responsibly. And not to drink and drive.
We can have sex and smoke at 16, i think its ridiculous, me personally i agree with the age limit being increased, and would do it to all of the above. i like to walk into a pub without a group of chavs ordering their foster tops and WKD's, oh and walking through the town centre would be so nice without the 16 year olds pushing prams at me and their smoke blowing in my face.
Yes.
yes 21 I agree 100%. but they will still find a way.
What do you mean raised to 21? It' been 21 for as long as I can remember. At least it has in Arkansas.
Sure. Just as long as you raise the enlistment age and voting age to 21 also.
If a man is old enough to defend his country and vote, he is old enough to drink.
Every time they raise a legal age limit all they discover is that the people just above it are just as stupid as the ones just below it.
I really dont agree!
I mean, who are they to tell us how to live our lifes?
Drinking is hurting no1 but the drinker! with the extra taxes going on beer, no1 has the right to tell you your not allowed!
&& no1 wil listen!
I just so hope it dont happen! xx
It should be lowered
I was drinking alcohol when I was 12
mixed emotions about the whole thing really, i have just turned 18 and bought my first (legal) drink, i do think that at the age of 18 you should be allowed to drink, i think that the law that requieres an age that should be put up is marraige!! i mean come on 16! really that should be put up to 21 not alcohol! cheers xx
Raise it to 25. Most people can't handle alcohol to start with.
I don't know. I think it'll make alcohol even more attractive to teens and pre-teens, which is the exact opposite of what the government wants, isn't it? They should really be tackling underage drinking more directly, and this doesn't seem like the best way to do it to me.
Personally no. Whatever age you are, if you want to drink you are going to do it, whether there is an age limit or not.
I think it would just take too much police time up when they should be fighting real crime.
They may not realise it but the underage drinkers are only hurting themselves.
when I was 18, the legal drinking age was lowered from 18 to 21 (arguement being that if you old enough to be drafted to vietnam, then you were old enough to vote and drink). Anyway, there were some problems and eventually it was raised back to 21. Like increased auto accidents etc.
I can say that the bars became much better places to hang out once the 18-20 year olds were banned. Many could handle it, but those that can't were unbelieveably disrupted. Particularly the boys. The could be so obnoxious (at least here).
I think it is nonsense. In other countries, children are taught about drinking from an early age and so do not end up abusing it. The more strict we get the more they want to taste the apple, and so the less they learn. Many 18 year olds do not abuse it, its a minority, just as you get yobs at 25, 26,27 who indulge in alcohol abuse. I say teach kids from an early age, then it wont be such a big thing.
raise it up or bring it down, "young ppl" have always and will always find a way to get it. To most alcohol is the solution...
Its 19 In Canada!
Woot Woot!
One More Month For Me!
:D
They Tried To Make Me Go To Rehab
I Said No no No!!!!
LoL
No you can get married at 16, fight for your country, vote, and so many other things before you are 21.
Effective enforcement and sentencing is the answer.
Breath tests on Under 18's should be made available if suspected of drinking then fine the parents/child.
No way! I think it's stupid! By doing that they're not gonna stop violence on the street at all! If anything I think it will make more violence on the street because then nearly all people who are under 21 who want to have a drink will be on the streets drinking then will start fighting!I definately don't agree coz I'm 19 nearly and then I won't be able to go to the pubs!I don't think it will make any difference to the violence on the streets, it definately won't make it any better, if anything it will make it worse!
They shouldn't put it up, it will only make more violence, more street crime, more fighting, more mugging, more burglaries! Especially where I am, with the people round here anyways!x
its 21 in the united states but 18 in canada so maybe the asker lives n canada
I don't think it would hurt, but the fact is that no form of prohibition has ever really worked-we need to address why people feel the need to binge drink in the first place- which leads us to more endemic and worrying problems in our society that no one is really willing to address at the moment, prefering to blame a series of scapegoats and utilse simplistic, drakonian policies that make people feel like something is being done without changing anything.
Aside from smoking a bit of weed and tobacco, I steer clear of drugs despite the fact I have the contacts to get hold of whatever I like- I don't have a big problem with drugs, I just think there are better things to do- when we know why so many people don't feel this way, we will have a genuine solution to this, and many other problems facing society at the moment
To you Yanks, the UK limit is 18.
Yes, absolutely. Some 15 year-olds brag about how they appear over 18 and are able to get alcohol quite easily. If the limit was raised to 21, they won't be able to.
If someone could prove they were 18, however, a passport perhaps, then they should be allowed to buy it.If you appear under 21, no alcohol unless you have your passport/credit card.(Under 18s can't get a credit card).
