I live in VA but am taking a trip to SC do VA or SC driving laws apply to me when I am there?
I am not old enough to drive more than one person in VA so I was wondering if I go to SC will I be able to follow their laws or would I still be only allowed to drive one person. And also when are you able to drive more than one person in NC and SC?
Answers:
the laws of the state you will be in apply. SC law.
I don't know what the law is in these states.
And you have a license? ;-)
It is likely that you have a drivers permit, it is not that you can only drive one person around BUT that in order to drive you must have a licensed driver with you. And the laws that would apply are the laws of the land, so if in SC their laws would apply.
Yes
In answer to what I think you're really asking, No, The police in SC will not enforce a driving restriction law from VA. Since your license is issued in VA, SC police cannot enforce it.
BUT, if you're stopped for an infraction in a given state (ie. DUI or Speeding), THAT state's laws do apply, unless its a federal law, which is enforceable everywhere in the US.
Yes and no. First, the traffic regulations (rules of the road) of the local state always apply. If you have to have your lights on in the rain in Virginia, but South doesn't have that rule, then you do not have to turn your lights on in the rain.
Second, Virginia issued your license, any restrictions placed on that license by Virginia is a condition for use of that license. If you have to where corrective lenses in Virginia, then you have to where them in South Carolina, even if South Carolina doesn't have that rule. The same thing applies about only having one person with you.
Check the back of your license. That restriction may be listed there. Thye usually are.
