For all those complaining about the Paris Hilton situation...?
How do you think Paris should pay her debit to society?
What's best for both society and for Paris?
Consider the fact that if she's in jail she is by definition in solitary confinement which is considered a form of torture. Would a longer sentence under home confinement be more appropriate?
Answers:
First, for her offences, you or I would not have spent a day in Jail.
LA County Jail, as a non-violent offender, you serve 10% on your sentence. Hers was 23 days, she did 3, that's OVER 10%. She now goes on 40 day house arrest. The rest of us would NOT have to do that.
I am a Conservative, who also works in the "System" in California.
If it was you or I and we had NO Lawyer, we would have a lower sentence...YIKES!
No she needs to do her time just like anyone else
torture? ROTFLMAO! You libs crack me up.
community service at least
lock her up for life. to save the American people from the torture of having to see her every day
she's not in isolation... shes at home on house arrest
she deserves to go to jail.
She should serve all of her time.
Lets face it, if you or I got the same sentence, do you think that they would let us out to do house arrest in a mansion.
I think not.
Letting her out of jail is a huge travesty of justice.
She needs to be treated like we everyone else! Throw her in the slammer and pay fines! No special treatment!
No she's not...she's in isolation.there's a difference. They keep her there to protect her from other women who would kill her otherwise. She has a TV, radio, all the things she needs. She will be just fine!!
Oh torture my ***! Give me a break.
Torture?? In every prison in the US there are inmates who are in a cell for 23/24 hours a day alone -- it's called paying for your crime.
Torture?? LMAO sorry that is the funniest thing that I have heard in all of this!
I didn't realize that she had a Society Debit card. Can I get one of those? Technically you don't have to pay back a debit. It comes right out of your bank account.
Oh, in case it's not obvious enough, I'm making fun of you and your inability to form a logical thought.
It's debt, not debit.
Driving under the influence kills people and then breaking parole shows a plain disrespect for the law. She had the opportunity to not go to jail by following the initial guidelines presented to her in her parole. It never happened, hence why she went to jail.
Home confinement for her is different than it is for most Americans. Beyond that, this is demonstrative of how the legal systems treats the rich better than regular citizens.
Look, she is in jail. She needs to serve her time like everyone else. Jail is not supposed to be comfortable. If she is un-happy with solitary confinement, throw her in with the rest of the population, and see how she handles that.
most of us are sick and tired of the special treatment of so called near famous people.
I think Paris should have gotten community service. Let her get down and dirty doing something good for a change. Honestly, being under house arrest for 40 days -- at her house -- not much of a punishment.
I think everybody likes to believe if you are sentenced to a day in jail you do a day. If it's life sentence you do life. But of course, the reality is far from that -
torture? You conservatives crack me up.
That isn't torture at all...it's called doing time to pay for the crime.
I hope she enjoys her return to prison, and I hope that the sheriff who released her joins her.
Do the time for the crime she committed, just like any common person would have to.. That is only fair. Or is it too much to ask for in this lopsided system of justice we go by?
Let the court and judges decide on type of punishment. All institutes in a healthy democratic society have independence.
It doesn't matter whats best for Paris. Ya know, if she spent her time doing good things in her life. Habitat for humanity as an example, helping kids somehow. this wouldn't be an issue, but Paris is an example of a spoiled rotten little brat that always gets her way, she needs to pay the price for her stupidity. So the only thing best for her, is serve her time! Period!
I don't hate her, but she needs to serve her time like everybody else does. They wouldn't just let an average guy out like they did with her trust me, There is a long process for that it takes atleast 15 to 20 days if an average guy needed out.
Pay her debt to society? WHO CARES! SHE DROVE ON A SUSPENDED LICENSE! SHE DIDN'T KILL ANYONE!
there is a man free today who drove DRUNK and killed my friend ... and he is out FREE - never served one day in prison!? HE NEEDS TO BE IN JAIL - NOT PARIS HILTON! Paris Hilton is NOT a threat to society therefore DOES NOT Belong in jail!
her being at home is punishment enough ... the girl dies if she doesn't party for 1 day!
and i see people EVERYDAY who get DUI's and drive on suspended license and do all kinds of things and get off FREE!
first of all its debt not debit!!!
Her *** should still be in there, I think its a crock of s**t that just because she has money that she gets out of jail. I mean come on she sits in there and cries so they worry about her mental state. They wouldn't give a damn if it was just some nobody off the street that did that, they would have to do the time! They should have made her do a prison porn before she left!!
Well not anymore...b/c little miss princess got sick! :( I cannot stand how society gives all of these celebs a break. For what? B/c they have TV shows and they make Cd's? She should serve her FULL TIME just like any other normal human being should, especially b/c she has had numerous DUI charges against her. What really irks the h3ll out of me is her little fan posse protesting her jail time? What is wrong with the world today? I could go on about this subject forever but I will leave it at that...
EDIT to just_hanging_out_in_…: Um how would viewing her sentence as torture be a "conservative" thing? That makes no sense...if anything it would be a liberals point of view.
she should have paid the same debt anyone else had under the same circumstances which would be jail time. her going to jail has no effect on society whatsoever. she is a rich spoiled brat who just cares about her looks and what party she is going to. she is in jail which is not solitary confinement. she was allowed to associate with other members of the prison and chose not to have a roommate. she was in a special group of cells for celebrities and police officers that have committed crimes. she was allowed visits and to go outside. she didn't have it as bad as the majority of people that go to jail. she was there for three days. everything is a joke to celebrities now. being on home confinement is not a punishment at all have you seen her home? if you do the crime you have to pay the consequences...no mater who you are.
how should Paris pay her debt to society? hmmm, lets think about that for a moment.OH i know, how about what the Judge ordered for her, JAIL TIME! If you read the news about, the Judge specifically said NO ELECTRONIC MONITORING, SHE MUST SERVE THE 40 DAYS! As for the whole solitary comfinement thing, F**k It, shes gonna be a ***** about it then stick her in with the "regular inmates", the prison is the one who determined she is too much of a "risk" to be put in the General Area...shes not anyone special, she effed up, now she has to pray the price, simple as that!
I think she should be treated as others are treated. When a non-celeb goes to jail for DUI they are not let out until their debt is paid. This was a severe crime she committed. It wasn't like she just passed the red light or something. She could have killed someone!
I think she should go back and finish the sentence given to her by the judge (as anyone else would be forced to do). I also think she should get sometime of community service or probation after.
House Arrest is NOTHING like being in jail. If I had done the same thing... I'd probably be looking at a worse sentence... WHY? Because I lack the money and popularity Paris has!
How should she pay her debt??
She needs to suck it up and serve her Jail sentence. She should also pay a hefty fine, and do community service. (Martha Stewart had more balls than she did for goodness sake! And I can't stand that woman either!)
Whats best for Society & Paris??
For her to pay her dues, and start being a better example, instead of prancing around like a little tramp!
She is not in jail anymore. After 3 days she was released because of "medical reasons" and put under house arrest. I hear a prosecutor or someone was furious and was able to have her reappear in court today --- hopefully she will have to serve her time in jail just like anyone else that is convicted of a crime. And I don't think she should get special treatment in jail like having her cell all to herself, either... especially since all correctional facilities complain about not having any room/space.
Maybe this will teach her a lesson!
I think that people are giving little Ms Paris far too much attention..She did wrong and got caught she should have consequences just like anyone else..She doesn't deserve any special treatment..
She needs to do her time and she is in solitary confinement because of her own celebrity. She doesn't HAVE to be there. Heck, she doesn't HAVE to be in jail period!
On our news last night, they interviewed several people who just got out of Cook County (Chicago) jail after having served around 30-40 days in jail for the same offense as Paris. None of them said they got any special treatment or consideration and they were pretty upset to be in jail too, away from their families and homes. A few of them also had medical conditions, but they didn't get released early.
If Paris Hilton was your average American working a 9-5 job, would she have gotten any of this special treatment? I really don't think so. That's what most Americans are outraged over. If they're going to give her the option of serving her sentence under home confinement, that should be an option available to everyone.
